About the Author
J. Peter Burkholder is Distinguished Professor of Musicology at Indiana University. He has written and edited four books on Charles Ives, as well as numerous articles on topics spanning from the Middle Ages to the twentieth century for The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, Journal of the American Musicological Society, Journal of Musicology, Musical Quarterly, 19th-Century Music, Music Theory Spectrum, and other journals. He has served as President, Vice President, and Director-at-Large of the American Musicological Society and on the board of the College Music Society. His writings have received awards from the American Musicological Society, the Society for American Music, and ASCAP.

The Amazing Guide to Western Music (7th)

This book and the study and listening guide are a great combination. The material is structured for the best learning, and it does so in as concise a manner as one can have with thousands of years of music to cover. Anyone who loves music would find the book and guide (including necessary CDs) a great help.

A book no music student should be without

This is an incredible series of books. The authors should be highly recommended for their novel way to encourage the student's approach to their studies. As a mature student, I feel enthused to delve deeply into the subjects covered and am aiming for a distinction in my studies. I'm sure that following their recommended methods of study, I will achieve my goals.
