Very good in my opinion

I bought this after needing to study for the GED after being out of school for 24 years. I passed my 3rd test today, I only have math to go. If you study this book, you will pass. Every question was addressed at some point in this book. Tons of sample questions and review questions, 2 practice test for each subject. As I said, I still have math to go which will be my greatest challenge but this book prepared me well for language arts, science and social studies. It's a huge book packed with tons of info. I actually loved the social studies portion...I learned so much . I recommend this book for sure **updated august 13, 2016-I took my math test today and passed (yay! I'm all done!). I have a lot of issues with math, and yes this book helped but I found it to be a little lacking in explanation on how to find the answer to difficult math problems. If math comes easy to you this will be all you need, if not, I would get a book that is focused on math process to supplement the math portion in this book. Again, it is very thorough and I passed all test on the first try with just this book and a little YouTube help on the math section. I wish everyone seeking their GED the best of luck, it's a great feeling when your finally done

Great workbook for GED

Looking for a product to use to tutor someone working on their GED. This is a perfect workbook for the mathematic portion of the GED. I'll be looking for the other topics this same publisher has for the other sections of the GED.

Find your perfect job book!

Recent grad? Contemplating going back to school? Eyeing a career change? This book is perfect for a professional at any point in his or her career. As someone thinking of business school or law school, I've found this book extremely helpful in giving me the inside scoop (very helpful to get the perspective from an author who has done both!). I also have three sisters at different points in their careers (grad student, recent grad, and college student) who have found it extremely helpful as well. The book is organized in such a way that anyone can pick and choose what materials can help them.

Job-hunting can be very stressful but Scott Smith does a good job of introducing a systematic and organized way of approaching what could be a very overwhelming process. His light humor also makes this a fun read -- face it career books can sometimes be a snore. This book is a must-read for anyone, just wished I had it when I first graduated from college!

If you are reading this review, you have found the 'perfect job search' book! If you are looking for a book that can ACTUALLY HELP you in your search for a new job or even a new career, this is it. The book is light on fluff and cliches, and heavy on tools and issues that matter in the real world. I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it is to read. The author does a masterful job of mixing in humor, candor and real life examples in a thoughtful way. It sets a clear roadmap on how to look inward to help identify what you ACTUALLY WANT TO DO!!!! IMAGINE THAT?!?! A JOB YOU ACTUALLY LIKE!!!! This book will help you find it! I purchased multiple copies of the book that I have given to a few people I think can benefit from it. What better testament is there than that? Do yourself a favor and buy this book....you will not be disappointed!!!

"Find Your Perfect Job" delivers what every jobseeker needs! Smith's easygoing, supportive, and occasionally humorous writing style makes this information-packed book a fast, enjoyable and extremely worthwhile read. The book is most impressive in that it seamlessly combines a valuable tool set for use in identifying your career interests with straightforward steps on how to reach the goal of landing a perfect job. These positive features are rarely seen in comparable books on the market.

As a recent career changer, I found Smith's method of evaluating my personal strengths and interests extremely useful in determining my next career move. His interview preparation section was also spot on as I used it effectively throughout my interviewing process from getting an initial interview to successfully receiving my desired offer.

Smith's unique personal anecdotes found throughout the text take the book to another level. He backs up his methods with plenty of interesting examples. He has been in the trenches in the corporate world and in post-graduate education and he levels with you on the reality behind the brochures. The man definitely knows of what he writes! His logical argument against law school is devastatingly effective and will make all but the most ardent believers think again before following that route. His analysis of business school is far more favorable, but it is also done in an objective, logical manner. This section is a critical read for anyone interested in pursuing post-graduate education in these areas.

Most importantly to any potential reader, Smith has been there before you in all these important career-determining situations. About the Author
A qualified mechanical engineering designer, Keith Lee has been actively involved in drag racing for 20 years. From being an impressed young spectator at the Drag Festivals, he went on to compete on one of the more unusual machines, before spending many years as a writer and photographer working for various national and international publications – most notably, as drag strip correspondent for Motor Cycle Weekly. Keith was also a commentator at Santa Pod Raceway for ten years, and served on the committee of the main organizing club of the period, the BDR&HRA. He now works as a professional photographer.

DRAG BIKE RACING IN BRITAIN

I have DRAG RACED MOTORCYCLES IN THE USA for many years and have met a few racers from around the world over the years. Many times we have laughed at their ideas and creations. But they work ! As we look at roughly 60 years of DRAGBIKES IN THE USA and laugh at how far we've come, now we can look at BRITAIN and how far they have come. We can appreciate how hard these RACERS work to over come lack of parts and suppliers. Not always perfect weather conditions and tracks not always up to USA
conditions or standards. Over all I like the booked. Good pictures and stories. Like meeting some OLD FRIENDS and some NEW FRIENDS and reminiscing over their family photo albums.

Este libro es buenisimo, de fuente fidedigna, yo en lo personal que soy una psiquica pude sentir y ver con mi tercer ojo a la presencia del Maestro Saint. Germain todo el tiempo mientras lo leia, es una entrevista al el y me parecio una excelente idea de su parte hacerlo asi, la informacion es muy digerible y ademas te deja un toque de magia y una gran sensacion de esperanza por un mundo mejor.

He far outlives his feisty sister and handsome-brat brother. He never marries, and his closest relationships are with other males, though when sex apparently impinges on one of them, he abandons it. Moreover, he can’t stomach his great, great nephew’s homosexuality. For lengthy stretches of his story, he’s unspeaking, in the background, nowhere around as we watch the more dramatic lives of friends and family flare in bizarre illness and death, in madness and violence, and in love, at home more than in the wars and wanderings they are called to. Gilbert Hernandez lives in Las Vegas, NV, with his wife and daughter. He is co-creator of the long-running, award-winning, and critically acclaimed series Love and Rockets. Magnificent

Gilbert Hernandez is probably best know as the clumsy half of the "Love and Rockets" series. I say clumsy because, while his work frequently touches greatness, it is often stumbles around in incoherence, random acts of terrible violence, and sexual imagery that verges on offensive. While Jaime's stories are clean and precise (like his line work), Gilbert's often stumble about looking for a theme, or (if they have a theme) a way of delivering it. Gilbert is obviously the "difficult" child.

And I buy them all anyway, because even a second-rate Gilbert is better than almost everyone else in the field.

Because it's the gems like "Julio's Day" that make it worthwhile.

This is probably his best work since the "Palomar" series. Encompassing the 100 year life of Julio (in a 100 pages) it is an astonishing series of vignettes that are often funny, and frequently heartbreaking. All the stylistic an aesthetic nuances that annoy me in his other work are still here - but in "Julio's Day" they work perfectly. It's as if the last ten years of Gilbert's work (and a substantial and very respectable body of work it is) have suddenly paid of in this wonderful example of diamond-hard truth.

I've read everything he's done twice, but this is one I will be reading over and over.

Julio's Day is a lovely, poignant portrayal of a Hispanic community in the Southwest through the eyes of Julio whom we meet on the day of his birth in 1900. The first panel is the wide open mouth of a baby newly born. Each page of the graphic novel is a year in Julio's life, and through him we experience not only his own life and that of his family, but also the major historical and cultural events of the 20th century. Funny, sad, warm, and difficult, we experience the relationships that Julio has and doesn't have. As a closeted male, he lives with his mother all his life and chooses not to explore potential relationships.

Illness, war, child abuse, death and sorrow fill these pages, but overall the feeling that comes through is the optimism that comes from the ongoing relationships of family and friends. As Julio ages, he watched the world change with cultural upheaval of the sixties and the war in Vietnam. Family members go to the city and interact with people of different cultural backgrounds. When his sister's grandson, Julio Juan, lives the life in the city that Julio could not have, he is not sympathetic, and his namesake explains to his lover that Julio, nearly 100 years old, still lives in the house where he was born. The book ends as it began, with Julio in bed, a wide open mouth of a man at the end of his life.

I found this book rich and satisfying, and more moving that I would have suspected a graphic novel could be. I recommend it highly.

Comics at their finest

Gilbert Hernandez’s latest comic, Julio’s Day, tells the story of Julio, a Mexican gay man born in 1900 and who dies in 2000, and takes the format of telling the 100 year life of Julio in 100 pages. The book follows the lives of Julio and his family, and his friends and acquaintances that make up the small town they live in and how their lives change over the course of growing up alongside the major events of the 20th century. It’s a deep, complex, and absolutely captivating story filled with the horrors of life amidst its many joys, and deals with things like war, disability, sexual attitudes, child abuse, love, innocence lost, family, ambition unrealised, dreams and nightmares, life and death.

Hernandez has been creating comics for decades now with the end result being that he is an incredibly accomplished comics storyteller. Eschewing narrative boxes, Hernandez tells his 100 year story without once naming any of its locations or times. Occasionally a character will mention an event that will place the scene in historical context like World War 1, or the Wall Street Crash, or Vietnam, but it’s up to the reader to judge for themselves the times certain scenes take place by looking at the characters’ appearances as they age.

Hernandez doesn’t use exposition and never uses excess speech – it’s a lean script with perfectly placed dialogue. He knows when to let the art speak for the scene and when to accentuate it with conversation. Reading this book is like watching a master-class in how to tell a comics story. Bear in mind he’s not doing anything innovative, he’s using black and white panels in a grid layout to tell his tale like so many comics before, he just happens to do it so well that it feels fresh, vivid and new.

He also incorporates dream sequences and hallucinations into the real story with no warning or signposting. All at once we go from a childhood scene to a nightmarish sequence that may or may not be real to another scene which is definitely dream-like to a hallucination from the perspective of a character who’s losing their mind. It sounds difficult to follow, but it honestly isn’t, and Hernandez’s totally unobtrusive narrative approach leaves all kinds of interpretations open to the reader over what’s symbolic, what’s real, and what it all means.

If this surreal style and hands-off approach, coupled with the 100 years/100 pages format, make it seem like this book is going to be arty and pretentious, I assure you it isn’t. It’s simply the best way to tell this kind of story that’s subtle, clever and enthralling to read. It’ll be confusing but you can absolutely read this book for the story and still enjoy it immensely, but Hernandez is doing more here than spin a good yarn and readers who look for more substantial reads will find Julio’s Day very rewarding.

Julio’s Day is a rich, character-driven, family saga full of memorable characters and scenes that’ll haunt your memory long after you put the book down. In some ways it’s a discussion of the changing, and unchanging, sexual mores of the 20th century; in some ways it’s a deeply intimate portrait of a lonely man always surrounded by people; and in other ways it’s an exploration of the most relevant and poignant themes of literature. If John Steinbeck were creating comics, he would write something like Julio’s Day, the book feels so much like his novels Tortilla Flat, Cannery Row and Of Mice and Men. I could talk about my favourite scenes and characters but I feel like discovering them yourselves, in this instance especially, really adds to the impact of the story – it’s so unpredictable and surprising in the best possible ways that you’ll never guess where it’s headed and never put the book down for an instant as you find out what happens next.

I’ve enjoyed many of Hernandez’s comics over the years from his work with his brother Jaime on their ground-breaking Love and Rockets series to his own projects like the surreal and entertaining stories of Sloth and Speak of the Devil - Julio’s Day is my favourite thing he’s done. Brutal, beautiful, subtle, stark, compulsively readable, and put together like a true work of art by an artist at the height of his powers, Julio’s Day is one of the best comics of the year and a masterpiece of sequential art.

This is a Fantastic Book

The book is a soft cover, good quality and comes with a CD. Each chapter has outlines and objectives so you can prepare and focus for chapter tests. The text/font is a good size, easy to read and the pages are also of good quality and not cheap or thin. The illustrations are clearly explained with the proper locations of the parts. They also have photographs of real affected areas of the body, which I found to be somewhat gross, but that's how good the pictures are! I am not a medical student but I am studying for medical coding and I found some of the pictures, well, a bit "surprising". I didn't expect to see real pictures of skin diseases, lacerations etc., but I guess this gives students a better understanding of human anatomy. Aside from my shying away (at first) from some of the graphic photographs, it is a well written book that is easy to read, follow, and comprehend.

Valuable and insightful textbook on education

I just finished this textbook for a semester in graduate school, and found it very enlightening. I used to teach secondary school in Singapore for about eight years before moving to the United States and after several years as a stay-at-home mom decided that I would love to return to teaching [after grad school].

I love the way this book is organized -there's a lot of useful information not only within the text, but also in the margins, for example the inclusion of the INTASC standards, the Reflect & Write feature which allows readers to ponder on pertinent educational issues, the "In the Classroom" feature which describes real-life experiences of actual teachers in different parts of the country, and many more.

The text is easy to read, and never reads like a dense academic text. Everything is clearly explained and makes the issues described easy to comprehend and follow. The chapters covered are:

Regardless of how this sound, I got the book for only one reason and that was I was searching into the wealth, differential states of development, mixed expectations for schools which are reflections of the heterogeneous character of the students and how the government is still screwing up by such potential damage of cuts & Pastes. In addition, I must state it is a book of learning laws and special problems, primarily of decentralization rather than centralization and those issues of tests. Finally, it is a book for future teachers. The variety of circumstances which I liked this book is the challenge the new teachers have in front of the American schools and the ultimate choice once that student-teacher candidates become part of this American spectrum. This isn’t a novel book; it’s an assigned, textbook, but a good one to read.

Excellent advanced EKG book for EPs. Not for beginners.

Excellent review of real EKGs with short one-liner histories, just like when you're working in a busy ED and constantly have the EKG techs asking you to sign EKGs. This book is for people who need to read real EKGs of real patients, and it is definitely not for beginners. You need to know the basics of how to read an EKG first, and this book will help you pick up on abnormalities which are necessary for emergency medicine. It does not talk at all about the basics of the EKG tracing or give an overview of EKG at all, it is cover-to-cover real EKGs with explanations, no wasted space. It does have an index in the back, which is nice because you can go back and find cases of particular abnormalities easily.

Format is irritating

Dr. Mattu needs no introduction as a recognized expert. However, this book, whether in e-form or paperback is incredibly poorly assembled in my opinion. The EKGs are in one place in the book and the explanations are in another. So one must constantly switch back and forth. The publisher should consider changing the format so that the EKG and it's explanation is on the same page, even at the expense of adding a few pages!

Finally an ECG book that is actually worth more than what you pay for

This book is an excellent resource for anybody with a good grounding of ECG basics. This is not for the beginner. The ECGs are of high quality with great explanations of the findings and their clinical pertinence emphasized. This really is for any physician (not just the ER doc) or anybody interested in increasing their ECG acumen and ability. As Dr. Mattu points out it may help you to save a life. I am actually quite impressed with this simple and well thought out format. There is a lot of repetition to hammer home key points. By doing 10 EKGs every day you will get through this book in 3 weeks...and will go back again and again for reinforcement.
