Controlling your impulses is a hard topic to teach to children. Finally a book that gets the point across in a humorous manner. I can't wait to use this with the children at my school. --Marjorie Edge, Elementary School Counselor

This book was perfect! It was exactly what I was hoping based on the title. It tells the story of Braden, a third grader, who has trouble controlling his impulses. The examples in the book were things my own son has done or would do, so it was very relatable for him and for me. The book lays out 4 simple steps to practicing impulse control. And while it's not simple to control yourself at a young age, the steps are easy to remember for both the child and the parent. I know we'll be using this method in our household and returning to this book again and again, My son got very animated while we were reading this book. I know he struggles a lot with keeping his hands to himself and making good choices, and he was pretty upset about how teachers make it seem so easy, when it's not. I appreciate that the character in this book is older than my son. It gives us both the understanding that it's OK that he is still working on these skills. I felt like the book was age appropriate for him (just finishing kindergarten) vs. it seeming like a baby book. It's certainly not. I would recommend this book very highly to parents and teachers of early elementary age children. My Rating: 5 stars --Mom's Radius, Life. Love. Books. Blog

Bryan Smith comes from a family of educators. He has worked in the education field for more than 15 years. He began his career as an elementary school teacher before realizing he had a talent for helping children deal with difficult issues. He has since become a school counselor, where he flourishes teaching students life skills that will help them succeed.

So far this is my favorite Bryan Smith book! "What Were You Thinking?" Highlights the natural consequences of impulsivity and what happens when self-control is lacking and does so in a way that makes sense to students. I am impressed by how easily I have been able to give my students a reminder about using self-control after reading this book and truly seen a difference. Some of the students even give reminders to others about "impulsive choices" or needing "impulse control." I love how this book makes an abstract concept seem so concrete!

It explains every step of the process and gives tons of practical advice on everything from how to ensure your children come out unscathed to what to wear in court to how to start your new life. Hard hitting, but if you can follow her advice, you will pay your attorney far less, come to resolution faster and maintain your dignity throughout the process.

OK, I haven't tried all the recipes but...

I started baking bread a few years ago employing the techniques of Artisan Bread in 5-Minutes. While that got me started, I remained somewhat intimidated by the whole process, especially recipes requiring sponge, sourdough starters or preferment, as Josey utilizes in his method. I approached this book with trepidation, a little overwhelmed by all the info and easy flow of options, but I have to say I was thrilled with the result. This bread has an excellent crust, flavor and crumb and slices beautifully for toast...something my previous loaves didn't. I'm sold...so much so I sent my sons to The Mill last time they were in SF in order to bring me a loaf. Sadly (for me) but happily (for Josey) he was getting married that weekend and no loaves available. Not to be deterred, they brought me a piece of cinnamon raisin (brown sugar and butter) toast. Awesome! Thanks to Josey for taking the time to write this book and to share his enthusiastic love of baking. I was intrigued by his journey and I am again inspired. I also like that he offers recipes for many types of grains, such as kamut. I haven't dealt with the metric measurements but have had no problems thus far by following the standard measuring method. I may even start a bread journal. If you buy this book, enjoy your bread making journey!

The Glory of Bread

He's a super happy guy for discovering his gift of breadmaking and simply wanted to write a book that he wish he had when he started... that makes this a really accessible beginner book that gets you excited to make bread! I have a girlfriend who was obsessed over her sourdough and I thought it was just her, but now I see, that passion is a wonderful force that changes how people view food, one of the most important things in life. And by re-valueing something as basic as bread, one's entire perspective on life can change. So, if you want to change the world, the first step is making your own bread with this book as your guide. It's beautifully crafted, with an adorable bookmark, great photos, and well-written instructions. Fellow bread bakers might be interested in Traditional Breads of the World... which is just an interesting read as it is chockfull of recipes!

Excellent addition to my library

Excellent book with pictures and step by step instructions. Using a tutorial format, the author supports you through different breads moving from simpler to more complex loaves. I'm an experienced baker, but new to artisan breads. This book is exactly what I was looking for. Here's my first Josey loaf.....

An Epic Story With Believable, Likeable Characters. M.K. Eidem Doesn't Disappoint!

Wow!! I just spent 4.5 hours reading this epic novel and it was fabulous. I admit to being a fan of M.K. Eidem and of this series and this book was the best so far (I have a feeling I'm going to say that about all future books too)! This is the story of Jacinda and King Jotham, two long widowed characters who find the final loves of their lives. This is what makes the book special to me. It's not an insta-love, melodramatic piece of fluff. This book has two fully-fledged characters who have complex emotions and real challenges to overcome. Many characters from Cassandra's Challenge and Victoria's Challenge are woven into the story, giving us a look into their current lives and setting up future stories. We are also introduced to new characters, notably Jacinda's adult children. The writing was very good, only a few errors (possibly due to editing out a line and forgetting to change the sentence before or after), and the story never really dragged or felt rushed. In theory, this book could be read as a standalone, but is richly enhanced by the two previous books in the series. 10/10 stars, will definitely re-read, probably this week!

An amazingly beautiful love story

I love that Michelle writes books long enough to actually tell a story. This was an amazing love story of two mature adults finding love for the second time. Characters and events from prior books were tied in perfectly. All of Michelle's books are worth reading and then rereading over and over again.

Jacinda's Challenge - 10 Stars of Awesome

This is the third book in The Imperial Series by MK Eidem, and if I could post 10 stars I would. Loving the characters and world created in Cassandra's Challenge And Victoria's Challenge this book is not only my favorite of the series but one of my top favs period, and a definite reread. Finally a fantastic exciting story whose central characters are going thru a reawakening of their emotions and ability to feel love again. Jacinda and King Jotham are sexy, confident, powerful exciting characters whose story is riveting.
Having known each other since their days at the Academy, Jacinda and Jotham's lives have always been intertwined. Jacinda was not only a good friend of Jotham's late wife but her husband who passed several years ago, was an important assemblyman for the House of Protection.
Though it takes some time for them to realize they having growing feelings for each other, and with many challenges to overcome, they find that love the second time around can be just as powerful and amazing.

Many of the characters from the first two books are woven into the story as well as several new ones, including Jacinda's children. These characters and the world they live in are very believable. This is a scify with characters and a world we can relate to and thru the authors talent for writing detailed multilayered stories it's a book you can really sink your mental teeth in. A truly unique story very different than the previous books, never predictable, delighting in every twist and turn.
Love loved having main characters I could relate to that are special, sexy gorgeous exciting, confident (and not twenty year olds) , emotional, sensitive, and loyal. The book was excellently paced I could not put it down once started, didn't want it to end.
A riveting beautiful love story with awesome characters in a phenomenal world that is really a must read whether you are a scify fan or not. Can't wait for the next one.

The Real Deal

If this book is ...not very exciting... or is ...not an instruction book... then the point indeed has been badly and completely missed.

True, if you want mechanics and club selection and all that other technical stuff... buy a different book. But you still won't know how to golf. Ever. That stuff is NOT the essence of golf and is only a tiny component of the game... yet almost all study, training, and instruction are on those aspects. So, the players are frustrated and unfulfilled and go nowhere with their game. How can one break this cycle?

Read this book and Tim Gallwey's The Inner Game of Golf if you actually want to learn how to play the game. But you must have an open mind and actually want to learn the game... not just stick to some prejudiced idea that you have about how you should approach the game. Very, very, very few ever really get this. If you open yourself to it you will be free of fear, genuinely enjoy the game in deeply meaningful ways, and will play like you never thought possible.

Fred and his book are an incredible contribution to golf.

I was so impressed with this book that I searched out and attended Fred's School for Extraordinary Golf. I was amazed to see the wide range of golfers there (a beginer, high and low handicappers, several in their 60's+) all accept and dramatically benefit from the instruction provided (all of which was based on what's in the book).
As for me, Fred's approach to golf and wise instruction methods have transformed the game of golf. Not only am I shooting the best golf in my life, I'm having the most fun -- and the more fun actually happened before the better scores did! I'm also learning about myself, about golf and about my life at a much faster rate.
Perhaps you can guess that I recommend Extraordinary Golf highly. It's changed my life by giving me continuous, ongoing access to the game of golf that I had always wanted, hoped for, and glimpsed -- but was somehow never able to fully embrace. Thank you Fred, and those who work with you, for providing a future of golf that is full of possibilities.
