Easy read, explains economics in plain simple layman's terms. I'm taking first year economics and this book is informative and a book that I will keep for years to come.

it read like a middle school text book

This book went straight from the mail to the trash. I found it to be really juvenile, it read like a middle school text book. I can't discount the information and I'll give it five stars because it might very well be good for high schoolers, maybe college freshmen with no economics background, but for the serious adult trying to gain insight the real estate market: look elsewhere.
I'm completing a bachelors degree in Economics from a no-name university so...I'm no Harvard MBA but I understand that I might bring more to the table than the average reader so take or leave my advice.

Little Book, Big Impact

This concise little book packs a lot of wisdom into 120 pages or so. It quickly dispels what assumptions you have about talent and makes a compelling case for the science of building your talent. There are some great tips here, though none that are earth shattering - I have read most of these before, but it is nice to have everything condensed down to one book. The only critique is that some of the tips just read like other tips repackaged and could probably have been cut. That said, a few of my favorite tips and quotes from the book are below:

Tip #3 - Steal Without Apology - Build on other's work

Tip #11 - Don't Fall For The Prodigy Myth - Early success is poor predictor of future talent (see Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison, Michael Jordan, etc)

Tip #12 - 5 Ways To Pick A High-Quality Teacher Or Coach - This is great - some of the best advice in the book

Tip #30 - Take A Nap - Science says so . . .

Tip #33 - To Learn From A Book, Close It - Great advice. Don't read to retain information. If you follow this tip you will retain more information, much faster. Valuable advice.

Practical guide based on his other book, The Talent Code

Both books say basically the same thing. But The Talent Code is more focused on telling stories and analysing research; The Little Book, with its extremely practical approach, could easily have been an appendix to The Talent Code.

So, if you want guidelines for developing a talent, buy this one. If you want a good, informative read, but which will not be so actionable, buy The Talent Code.,

This has been a truly great book in helping me improve my skills, particularly piano practising. The results were immediate. For example, practising a section three times with 10 minutes breaks in between. It felt weird and so unreal to a point of suspecting auto-suggestion on my part. I am so glad I bought this book.

SAVE YOUR MONEY. This 62-page booklet is not worth whatever price you find it for. It mentions all the things that make a great pick pocket, but doesn't tell you how to achieve those things. In fact it even refuses to teach you things outright!It actually mentions them, then tells you it will not be covered! So what is the point of producing an instructional text if it doesn't teach you anything? When it wasn't being vague it was telling you painfully obvious things about pick pocketing that it seems everyone would likely know.
Don't waste your cash or time with this one.

Horrible, I knew more before I read this book

I knew more before I read this [bad]book, this book is so bad it decreased my knowledge. This book gives theories on pickpocketing, at the end the author actually says he didn't include any step by step or detail instructions to pickpocketing because each pickpocket must go his own way (why read this then?), also pickpocketing is illegal and shouldn't be used illegally (the 2 reasons he didnt include any information on pickpocketing in his pickpocket book) All he says is you must get in his pocket but not let him feel you!! Drrr!! Thanks!! Anyway, I suggest the book Techniques of the Professional Pickpocket by Wayne B. Yeager. I have seen this on [website] many times before. That book is great.

Norman L. Geisler (PhD, Loyola University of Chicago) has taught at top evangelical schools for over fifty years and is distinguished professor of apologetics and theology at Veritas Evangelical Seminary in Murrieta, California. He is the author of more than seventy books, including the Baker Encyclopedia of Christian Apologetics.

Charitable and Fair - but I'm still Catholic :)

I bought this book on a whim one day while browsing books, and I was very pleased with what I found. I had previously read Catholicism and Fundamentalism by Karl Keating, as well as some books by Scott Hahn, Stephen Ray, among others. Reading those works, I became familiar with the arguments, and subsequently, the critiques of less than fair polemic works.
The positive comments from Catholics on the back cover (no less a figure than James Akin praised the work for its fairness) made me give in and buy it. The first section was wonderful, presenting the great amount of agreement we have in very charitable terms. The second section, where differences are discussed, the authors seem to go out of their way to "get it right." Most Catholic arguments for a given position are presented, and then refuted in generally kind, charitable terms. There are some exceptions though, where they leave out the most convincing arguments for the Catholic position. One glowing example is the chapter on justification. On page 227, some Catholic Scriptural arguments for their position are presented, and they cite such things as Matthew 5:12, 25:34, Romans 2:6, among others. Curiously missing from this, and hence never discussed, is James 2. One has to wonder why they would decline to interact with the one verse in the whole Bible that contains the clause "faith alone", and condemns it (James 2:24).
While I think that many of their arguments are very inadequate, and at times they seem to apply a double standard when quoting the fathers (depending on if the fathers seem to support or refute their positions), others are very well presented. In fact, their chapter on baptism got me thinking very, very hard. Wonderful stuff indeed.
This work stands miles apart from other works that are often used to refute Catholicism. In general, other books written in opposition to Catholicism lack scholarship, as if the authors don't want their readers to check the sources, but rather just accept what they're presented as fact (oftentimes fabricated out of thin air). Further, some authors show no interest in presenting the Catholic defense of a given doctrine. Geisler and MacKenzie go out of their way to footnote everything, present facts fairly, and make a genuine effort to initiate REAL discussion about the issues, and that is something that is greatly needed. Readers who are truly interested can easily identify and consult the source documents in their own time.
This is the book I give to my staunch Protestant friends who need to learn what the Church really teaches, but won't trust Catholic sources.
The actual arguments and methodology contained within only merit 4 stars from a scholarly and logically consistent point of view, however, given that this book sets a new standard in dialogue, I have to give it 5. I truly hope this sets an example for the future of dialogue between Catholics and Evangelicals.

I really enjoyed this book. It showed both the many agreements between Catholics and Evangelicals but also showed the strength of the evangelical argument in areas of disagreement.

Clearly Enumerates Issues

This book does a very good job of clearly enumerating the significant issues of agreement and disagreement in a methodical, easy-to-understand way. While I am Catholic (and the book is certainly written from an evangelical perspective), I found the tone and treatment of issues to be sensitive and in a genuine spirit of love and concern.
I would advise the reader, though, to carefully consider the quotations of the early church fathers as they are used in this (and other) books. On first glance, it is easy to read these quotations (often rather short and, I believe, outside of their full context) and conclude decisively that the early church fathers would not recognize today's Catholicism--and I think the issue is much more complex than that.
In short, I would definitely recommend this book (and have) to others.

Dr. Andrew P. Morrison is Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, and is in private practice of psychiatry and psychoanalysis in Cambridge, MA. He is author of several books on shame, including Shame, the Underside of Narcissism, The Culture of Shame, and multiple papers on shame and narcissism. He is a supervising analyst at Massachusetts Institute for Psychoanalysis, and on the faculty of the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute, Inc.

It's all in the book title!

This series of "Essential Papers", is a must for any theorist, practitioner or academic in the field of psychology. It is dense, but by no means obtuse. It offers the core issues around pathological Narcissism, from the "greats" and not a watered down interpretation from a 21st century cult, who bandy the word about.
I return to it time and again, to reacquaint myself, both with the terminology and the essence of the disorder. Indeed a prevalent and most difficult "characterological" deficit to work with, but the most rewarding to fully grasp and understand. As was said by Buddha 'To know all, is to forgive all'.

scholarly theoretical book, but the title has it right

This is a collection of 17 articles written by different authors at different times, from Freud on. It's certainly not pop-psychology style; this is scholarly stuff. But if you're up for some scholarly stuff, this is just what the title claims: Essential Papers on Narcissism. The variety of viewpoints makes this a good collection to give you a broad understanding of what's out there about narcissism. You'll probably like some of the articles more than others (the writing styles do vary), and probably agree with some more than others, but the bottom line is that there is worthwhile material here. I found it thought-provoking and edifying. But not a walk-in-the-park read.
The term "narcissism" (like "narcissist") seems to be used in different ways, with somewhat different meanings, by different people these days. Reading these articles will help you get a grip on what the important issues are, regardless of how you define the terms.
Heavy on theory (of course) and lingo that presupposes some background in psychodynamic concepts and terminology.
